The Gold Coast will come alive on Wednesday 21 April when the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton journey visits the city. Former Olympic and Commonwealth Games Medal winner Mayor Ron Clarke will join with Olympic triathlon superstar Emma Snowsill to welcome the arrival of the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton to Broadwater Parklands. Ms Snowsill is Australia’s most celebrated female triathlete with Olympic and Commonwealth gold medals and successive world championships to her name. The baton is on its journey to Delhi, India for the 2010 Commonwealth Games between 3-14 October. Mr Shri T.S. Dabari, Joint Director General for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, will also be in attendance at the Parklands. The public is invited to share in the Commonwealth Games spirit with free “Bollywood” entertainment on offer from the local Indian community. The afternoon will also feature a gymnastics display by the Gold Coast Gymnastics Club.

The Queensland Government are in the process of bidding for the 2018 Commonwealth Games for the Gold Coast.
